Treating The Symptom Vs Treating The Root: Restoring Vitality And Harmonizing Energy

One of the major differences between conventional western medicine and Acupuncture/ Chinese Medicine is that Chinese medicine is a holistic system of healing that seeks to restore vitality first and treat symptoms second, while conventional medicine is focused only on treating symptoms. First and foremost Chinese medicine seeks to restore vitality and harmonize energy, and only then to address symptoms. Once we restore vitality and harmonize energy the symptoms will naturally improve and long term results are better. When we can actually get to the deeper root of the problem the symptom can be resolved in a long-term way. This is every treatment begins with a seven point energy tune up before treating to reduce symptoms.

In certain cases of acute crisis, such as life threatening infection or a heart attack, the conventional approach is needed to stabilize the situation. However in post acute crisis care, or in the treatment of chronic conditions we need to restore vitality and harmonize the patient’s energy system, strengthening weak systems and dispersing stuck energy, rather than just focusing on the symptom. This will give a much better long-term result than focusing only on treating the symptom.

Happy Chinese New Year of the Yin Water Rabbit, 2023

Wishing a Happy, Healthy Chinese New Year to all my clients, let’s all welcome the Yin Water Rabbit Year 2023!

Chinese astrology uses animals, elemental designation and Yin and Yang to describe the energy (Qi) of the year and helps us to understand what to expect and how best approach the year, this is very closely related to Chinese Medicine that works with the Qi of human beings.

After a tumultuous and challenging Yang Tiger year that brought a terrible war between Ukraine and Russia, a very difficult year for financial markets, and many challenges as we continue to navigate the end of Pandemic, the Yin Water Rabbit Year 2023 should bring a respite from the storm.

The Rabbit is is known as a friendly, social and calm animal in Chinese Astrology, it’s a year that can bring less chaotic energy than the Tiger, and more opportunity for calm introspection, renewing social connections that may have lapsed during the past few years.

From Tiger’s Play Astrology by Gregory David Don

"Since the past few Years have been so disruptive and chaotic, I’m afraid to announce that this Year is incredibly boring and peaceful by comparison. The overall Qi of the Year is stable, quiet, and deeply introspective. I struggle to make any real negativity out of the Year, despite all the negativity we have been through, at least according to the media, lol. So take advantage and dive deep into this underground spring.

Above all, Rabbit Qi is vulnerable yet profound in its intuitive capacity, so Rabbits seek safety, protection, alliance, and stability in the form of “home.” When the Rabbit feels safe, secure, and has a tribe/circle of close friends, or a strong protector/partner, or they own their own home, then they shine; they become the Dragon—powerful and dynamic leaders with insight and heart, capable and successful. "
